Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer free consultations?
Yes. We offer free consultation for all our installed products.
Should we have our property surveyed before a fence installation?
We suggest having your property surveyed by a Maryland licensed land surveyor if you do not know where your property boundaries are located or are unable to find a property plat with approximate measurements & locations of existing structures. (Some counties & towns require the property markers staked & flagged prior to fence permit issuing).
Are fence post concreted in the ground?
Yes depending on the height & style of the fence chosen each post will be concreted in the ground with between 40 & 160 pounds of concrete per post (there are many fences that don’t require concrete footings at all).
What is a No dig fence?
A No Dig fence is reserved for high utility fenced areas or where a smaller post footing footprint is required. A no dig fence minimizes underground utility damage by using an air or hand driven smaller diameter metal post as opposed to digging a 8”x30” or larger round footer, the chosen style fence post are installed over this metal post, this type of fence is usually only used on certain applications. This type of installation is rapidly growing in popularity & we are one of the very few companies in the United States that offers this type of fence installation.
What does BOCA stand for?
Building Officials & Code Administrators. (National Pool Code).
What are the BOCA requirements for pool fences?
Fences must be at least 48” tall. Depending on fence styles chosen the fence may have to be taller than 48” tall. Spacing between pickets must be less than 4” (a 4” sphere can’t pass through). The minimum spacing between the lowermost top rail and the top of the bottom rail must be at least 45”. Gates must be self closing, self latching & must swing outward away from the pool. Opening mechanism must be at least 54” above grade. We suggest additional gate alarms for all pool gates & for each customer to check with their local permit or zoning offices for additional requirements that may be required depending on your site location.
Are you licensed by the Maryland Home Improvement Commission?
Yes we are licensed by the Maryland Home Improvement Commission MHIC #76860 & have been since our founding by the owner Tracy Washburn Sr in 1999. A helpful tip. When searching for a fence contractor in Maryland pay close attention to their license number. The lower the number the longer they have been in business & the more experience they should have which will most likely result in your total satisfaction & a better high end quality job.

Yes we contact miss utility (811) before every fence installation & retain a valid ticket number & update it as needed throughout the project. Any homeowner can also contact miss utility to have their property marked prior to any digging. Please call miss utility before you dig ! It’s the law!

For an additional fee we can apply for & obtain the building permits for you for your project if requested. All HOA approval, paperwork & matters are the Homeowners responsibility.
